Found in ponds and swamps. Occurs in shallow sluggish or standing water habitats with a lot of aquatic vegetation. Common in the floodplain of the lower Mekong. Feeds on zooplankton, crustaceans and aquatic insects. An air-breathing species. Marketed fresh.
